How this directory is built
Carers List is compiled from the public registers of the four UK care regulators. Every provider listed here holds a live registration to deliver care in someone's home. Nothing on this site is submitted by providers, paid for, or ranked.

One page per provider, not per registration
A regulator's register records one entry per registered location, so a national provider can appear dozens or hundreds of times. Home Instead alone holds 225 registrations. Publishing a page for each would produce hundreds of near-identical pages saying nothing different.
So we group registrations into companies and publish one page each, listing every registered location on it. That turns 16,811 registrations into 7,182 providers and 653 places.
What we publish, and what we don't
We do not publish ratings, scores, "best of" lists or rankings. The register records who is authorised to deliver care, not how well they do it. Inspection outcomes are the regulators' to publish, and every provider page links to its regulator record so you can read them at source. Provider lists on this site are ordered alphabetically, and we say so on the page.
We do not publish the name of a service's registered manager. It appears on the public register, but republishing thousands of individuals' names in a searchable commercial index is a different matter from a regulator publishing its own register. It also tells you nothing useful when choosing care.
We do not filter providers by the group they support. Only the Care Quality Commission publishes the groups a service is registered to support, and even in England that field covers most providers rather than a few: 79% are registered for dementia support, 92% for older people. Filtering on it would produce a page listing almost everyone, and it would show nothing at all outside England. Where a regulator publishes no such record, we say so on the provider's page rather than leaving a blank that reads as "does not do this work".
We label council-run and NHS-run services. 172 of the providers here are operated by a local authority or NHS body. Access usually runs through a needs assessment rather than a direct enquiry, which changes both eligibility and cost, so it is worth knowing up front.
How we handle websites
Most website addresses come straight from the regulator's own record. Some are worked out from other evidence, and those are less certain, so we mark them "unconfirmed" and point you at the regulator record instead. Where a provider is council-run we link to the regulator record rather than the council's homepage, because a council's general website is rarely about the care service itself.
Around three in ten registered services have no website we could confirm at all. We list them anyway, with phone details and their regulator record. Leaving them out would make the directory look more complete than the sector actually is.
What this directory is not
It is not advice about which provider to choose, and it is not a substitute for speaking to your local authority's adult social care team, who can assess needs and explain what funding you may be entitled to. It is a way to see who is registered near you, and to reach the regulator's record in one click.
